Flytying & Flyfishing Tutorials
This is the start of a collection of step-by-step photo. tutorials.
Over time, I'll be covering patterns relevant to anglers fishing northern rivers, whether it's for Trout, Seatrout, Grayling, or Salmon.
Trout and Grayling Patterns
Partridge and Orange - The famous, must-have
spider pattern.
The Light Woodcock - A good early season
spider pattern, which also works well for autumn Grayling.
The Dark Woodcock - Another good early season spider pattern.
Steve's Grey olive - My general, go-to
dry olive pattern. Really it's a cross between an Adam's and a Grey Duster...
works for me though.
As with most patterns, this is really only a template. Vary the size and the colour to match the natural.
Seatrout Patterns
Flying-treble mount - Essential for tying Surface Lures, Secret Weapons, and other trailing hook patterns.
Deer hair Surface Lure - An essential night-time Seatrout fly.
Bare Hook Black Medicine - Take the Falkus 'Medicine' principle one step further. Documented by Tony King in FF&FT magazine, but independantly developed many several others.
Any suggestions for future tutorials can be emailed to me here.
